Borussia Dortmund are among a number of clubs considering a move to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United this month.

The Bundesliga team join the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Premier League suitors in weighing up an attempt at recruiting the 27-year-old England international on a deal until the summer.
No decisions have been made by any party as yet and it is plausible Rashford stays with United, despite their willingness to part ways and the forward saying he is “ready for a new challenge”.
But external interest is building and discussions are taking place to establish the viability of a temporary switch away from Old Trafford.
United and Dortmund have experience of such situations following the agreement they reached 12 months ago, which saw Jadon Sancho spend the second half of last season in the Bundesliga.
But there would be numerous factors to ponder on all sides, not least the finances involved given Rashford earns more than £325,000 per week as part of a contract that does not expire until 2028.

It is inevitable United would want as much of his wages covered as possible if the academy graduate is to depart — which may prove an obstacle — while Rashford’s focus will be to pick the best destination in order to get his career back on track.
That is even more pertinent amid Thomas Tuchel starting as England manager ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Rashford has not played in United’s last six games in all competitions after first being left out of the squad for the derby win over Manchester City on December 15.
He was included in the squad for the defeat to Newcastle United on December 30 but did not feature from the bench.
He had previously played in all 15 of United’s Premier League games prior to his omission at the Etihad Stadium, starting 12 of them.

Analysis from German football correspondent Seb Stafford-Bloor
Dortmund have a shortage at wide forward. Donyell Malen is expected to leave the club during the current window and Karem Adeyemi is just back from injury. While Jamie Gittens has become a first choice on the left and Julian Duranville is another great hope on the right, both are at delicate stages of their developments and have (over different time periods) had issues with injury.
In addition, while Gittens’ form and contribution this season has at times been spectacular, he is still learning at the highest level, and would potentially profit from the sort of mentorship that Rashford — with 60 England caps and almost a decade in the Manchester United first team — could provide.
Duranville, too, is at a pliable stage of his career, having only made his first start for the club in December’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona. No doubt he would profit in a similar way.
Without question, Rashford’s positional range would be an asset — he could cover both wide forward positions and centre-forward (Serhou Guirassy and Max Beier are Dortmund’s current options). He would also suit the fast-paced, quick transitioning style that Nuri Sahin, appointed in the summer of 2024, is trying to implement. Sahin’s side are not stable yet and remain unpredictable without the ball, but it’s hard not to see a forward of Rashford’s type benefitting from their approach.
Financially it seems complicated, however, with Rashford’s wages far in excess of Dortmund’s highest earner, defender Niklas Sule, who earns closer to £160,000 per week. For this to work and an agreement to be struck, Manchester United would likely have to heavily subsidise a loan, as they did with Sancho a year ago.
