Ford plans to train West Tennessee residents for jobs at its Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center and start hiring hourly employees in 2025.
As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs announced Monday the closing of a direct loan of up to $9.63 billion to BlueOval SK to bolster its construction of three electric vehicle battery plants in Tennessee and Kentucky.
BlueOval SK’s three plants are expected to create a total of approximately 5,000 constructions jobs in Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as 7,500 operations jobs once the plants are up and running.

BlueOval SK is a joint venture between Ford Motor Co. and South Korean battery maker SK On. The three plants will produce batteries for Ford Motor Co.’s future Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles.
The loan is the largest granted through the DOE’s Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Program is intended to help the U.S. meet domestic demand and remain a global leader in the EV industry.
The U.S. DOE’s Loan Program Office in June 2023 had announced a conditional commitment loan of up to $9.2 billion for BlueOval SK to support its construction of the three electric vehicle battery plants: one in Stanton, Tennessee, and two in Hardin County, Kentucky.
The Department of Energy called the loan the largest single federal investment ever made in the automotive industry, according to a news release in 2023.
Loan Programs Office borrowers are required to develop and implement a comprehensive Community Benefit Plan. As a part of their CBP, BlueOval SK has partnered with Tennessee College of Applied Technology and Elizabethtown Community and Technical College in Kentucky to construct new community and technical colleges that are training members of the community for jobs at the BlueOval SK facilities.

Ford’s $5.6 billion BlueOval City electric truck and battery campus under construction in Haywood County in West Tennessee is expected to create nearly 6,000 jobs. The Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center will employ 3,300 people and be capable of producing 500,000 EV trucks a year at full production. BlueOval SK is expected to employ 2,500 people at its Tennessee site.
Following a recently announced production delay, customer deliveries of the new EV truck model will begin in 2027, while BlueOval SK in Tennessee will start production of battery cells for a new van starting in late 2025.
