AC Milan are the latest club to consider a potential loan for Manchester United misfit Marcus Rashford.

The striker, who has been out of favour under Ruben Amorim and missed the midweek defeat to Newcastle through illness, is ready for a new challenge and is available this month.

United ideally want to sell for £40million and that figure plus his wages of over £325,000-a-week are the major stumbling block.

United will consider loans with obligation to buy offers and a number of clubs have expressed interest.

Rashford has turned down approaches from Saudi Arabia and wants to remain in Europe to further his England career.

His preferred destination was Spain but that option is unlikely to open up until summer and would depend on his performance during the second half of the season.

Napoli have made early soundings but the financial implications of that move are considered too much of ‘a stretch’ by club insiders. Premier League sides are also weighing up offers but they would be well below what United want.

United are desperate to offload players to help give Amorim players more suited to his system. A striker and left wing back are considered priorities but they are hamstrung by PSR guidelines having overspent under Erik ten Hag.

Milan have struggled for goals this season with Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic picking up injuries and are eighth in Serie A.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a former team-mate of Rashford’s, has been tasked with trying to find solutions and the England international is one name who has been thrown forward.

Rashford has missed training with illness this week and looks unlikely to start for United under Amorim barring a substantial sea change.
